Following are the weekly questions from our 2010 Church-wide SERVGOD program: Self Questions:
Week 1 (May 5-12) - "What prayers do I need for myself?"
Week 2 (May 12-19) - "How do I experience God's presence in my life today?"
Week 3 (May 20-26) - "What spiritual gifts do I possess from God? (Take a Spiritual Gifts Survey by clicking on one of the links on the right side of this page.) Week 4 (May 26- June 1) - What Service do I need to be doing for God? Week 5 (June 2 - June 8) - How can I be a faithful witness that God is active in my life? Enjoyment (Leisure Time & Hobbies) Questions:
Week 1 (June 9-15) - Who, in my enjoyment, needs my prayers? Week 2 (June 16-22) - How is God working through my presence in my enjoyment? Week 3 (June 23-29) - How do I need to give of myself to help my enjoyment? Week 4 (June 30-July 6) - What Christian service do I need to do within my enjoyment? Week 5 (July 7-13) - How do those I enjoy my leisure time and hobbies with witness God active in my life? Relationships (Family, Friends & Others) Questions: Week 1 (July 14-20) - Who, in my relationships, needs my prayers? Week 2 (July 21-27) - How is God working through my presence in my relationships? Week 5 (Oct. 20-26) - How do those who I encounter in my nation and the world witness God active through Jesus Christ in my life? Others (in my community) Questions: Week 1 (Oct. 27 - Nov. 2) - Who are others, in my local community, that need my prayers? Week 2 (Nov. 3-9) - How is God working through my presence in my local community for others? Week 3 (Nov. 10-16) - What do I need to give of myself to help others in my local community? Week 4 (Nov. 17-23) - What Christian service am I able to do in my local community for others? Week 5 (Nov. 24-30) - How do others in my local community witness God, through Jesus Christ, active in my life? Divine (My church) Questions: Week 1 (Dec. 1-7) - Who, in my local church, needs my prayers? Week 2 (Dec. 8-14) - How is God working through my presence in my local church? Let's face it. We think of church as the place you go to on Sunday mornings. But what about the other 6 days of the week? How are we doing God's mission Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday? As Christians, we are to live our faith everyday, so we did a 35-week program through our weekly church newsletter (called "The Visitor") and repeated in the Sunday bulletin, to help each one of us focus on how God through Jesus Christ works in our lives each day.
As members of a United Methodist Church, we are to "to be loyal to Christ through the United Methodist Church" and "to faithfully participate in its ministries by our prayers, our presence, our gifts, our service and our witness." Using these five areas that are underlined, each week, we more thoroughly highlighted one question for you to focus on for that week.
We covered 7 main areas of your life, with a 5-week focus on each area. The acronym we use is SERVGOD and it stands for:
Self Enjoyment (My leisure and hobbies)
Relationships (My family and friends)
Vocation (My Job, volunteering or school)
Global (Our nation and world)
Others (My community)
Divine (My Church)
