 Let's face it. We think of church as the place you go to on Sunday mornings. But what about the other 6 days of the week? How are we doing God's mission Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday?
As Christians, we are to live our faith everyday, so we are beginning a 35-week program through the Sunday bulletin and repeated on the cover of our webs site to help each one of us focus on how God through Jesus Christ works in our lives each and every day.
As members of a United Methodist Church, we are "to be loyal to Christ through the United Methodist Church" and "to faithfully participate in its ministries by our prayers, our presence, our gifts, our service and our witness." Using these five areas that are underlined, each week, beginning on Sunday, we will highlight one question for you to focus on for that week.
We will eventually cover 7 main areas of your life, with a 5-week focus on each area. The acronym we are using is SERVGOD and it stands for:
Self
Enjoyment (My leisure and hobbies)
Relationships (My family and friends)
Vocation (Job, volunteering or school)
Global (Our nation and world)
Others (My community)
Divine (My Church)
To summarize: Each week, in our church bulletin and on the main page of our web site, we will have a focus question for you to work with in your life.

Following are the weekly questions for our 2013 SERVGOD program (Beginning on the first Sunday of Lent): Self Questions:
Week 1 (Feb 17-23) - "What prayers do I need for myself?"
Week 2 (Feb 24- March 2) - "How do I experience God's presence in my life today?"
Week 3 (March 3 - 9) - "What spiritual gifts do I possess from God? (Take a Spiritual Gifts Survey by clicking on one of the links on the right side of this page.) Week 4 (March 10 - 16) - What Service do I need to be doing for God? Week 5 (March 17 - 23) - How can I be a faithful witness that God is active in my life? Enjoyment (Leisure Time & Hobbies) Questions:
Week 1 (March 24 - 30) - Who, in my enjoyment, needs my prayers? Week 2 (March 31 - April 6) - How is God working through my presence in my enjoyment (leisure and hobbies)? Week 3 (April 7 - 13) - How do I need to give of myself to help in my enjoyment (leisure and hobbies)? Week 4 (April 14 - 20) - What Christian service do I need to do within my enjoyment (leisure and hobbies)? Week 5 (April 21 - 27) - How do those I enjoy my leisure time or hobbies with witness God active in my life? Relationships (Family, Friends & Others) Questions: Week 1 (April 28 - May 4) - Who, in my relationships, needs my prayers? Week 2 (May 5 - 11) - How is God working through my presence in my relationships? Week 3 (May 12 - 18) - How do I need to give of myself to help my relationships? Week 4 (May 19 - 25) - What Christian service do I need to do within my relationships? Week 5 (May 26 - June 1) - How do those I have a relationship with witness God active in my life? Vocation (Job, vounteering and/or school) Questions:

Week 2 (June 9 - 15) - How is God working through my presence in my vocation? Week 3 (June 16 - 22) - What do I need to give of myself to help in my vocation? Week 4 (June 23 - 29) - What Christian service do I need to do at my vocation? Week 5 (June 30 - July 6) - How do those I work, volunteer, or go to school with witness God active in my life?
Global (Our nation and world) Questions:
Week 1 (July 7 - 13) - Who, in our nation and world, needs my prayers?
Week 2 (July 14 - 20) - How is God working through my presence in my nation and world? Week 3 (July 21 - 27) - What do I need to give of myself to help my nation and world? Week 4 (July 28 - Aug. 3) - What Christian service can I do for my nation and the world? Week 5 (Aug. 4 - 10) - How do those whom I encounter in my nation and the world witness God active through Jesus Christ in my life? Others (in my community) Questions: Week 1 (Aug. 11 - 17) - Who are others, in my local community, that need my prayers? Week 2 (Aug. 18 - 24) - How is God working through my presence in my local community for others? Week 3 (Aug. 25 - 31) - What do I need to give of myself to help others in my local community? Week 4 (Sept. 1 - 7) - What Christian service am I able to do in my local community for others? Week 5 (Sept. 8 - 14) - How do others in my local community witness God, through Jesus Christ, active in my life? Divine (My church) Questions: Week 1 (Sept. 15-21) - Who, in my local church, needs my prayers? Week 2 (Sept. 22 - 28) - How is God working through my presence in my local church? Week 3 (Sept. 29 - Oct. 5) - How do I need to give of myself to help my local church? Week 4 (Oct. 6 - 12) - What Christian service am I able to do in my local church? Week 5 (Oct. 13-19) - How do others in my local church witness God, through Jesus Christ, active in my life? How have you done in Serving God these past 35 weeks? |
